2014 Applications

The Beta Iota Foundation will continue to offer both scholarships and grants in 2014.  Please read the following instructions to help choose the appropriate application:

Incoming college first years (current high school seniors): You are only eligible for a scholarship and will use the "2014 Scholarship Application - High School Senior" similar to previous years.

Current college students: You have the option of applying for either a scholarship or a grant.  Those current college students interested in a tuition based scholarship who have NOT previously won will use the "2014 Scholarship Application - College Student".  Those students interested in a "grant" designed to help pursue a specific purpose associated with their academic or professional development can apply for a "2014 Grant Application".  The grant applicants will largely be evaluated on their purpose and future goals.

Please note that each of the 3 groups of applications will be evaluated separately.

Instructions:  Please click on the appropriate application below.  Then download the scholarship or grant and carefully read the instructions.  To download you will need to register your email with Docstoc, however the service is free.:

2010 Scholarship Update

In 2010 the Foundation gave money to two existing scholarship funds made available through the UVA Fund, managed by the Alumni Association at the University of Virginia.

The Legacy Scholarship is given to an incoming first year legacy student at the University each year. With our donation the Alumni Association hopes to give 2 scholarships beginning this year, and winners will be announced in the late Spring.

The Greek Endowed Scholarship Fund is given to outstanding members of the Greek system at the University. Thanks to our efforts three separate scholarships were given to the following current UVA students in January:

  • Mark (Stockton) Beveridge is currently a 4th-year Zeta Psi member who resides on the Lawn. Stockton has served his chapter as the most recent president and was the Vice-Chair for Sanctions for Inter-Fraternity Council Judiciary Committee. Outside of his fraternal experience, Stockton is actively involved in One in Four, an all-male sexual assault prevention group, and the Club Lacrosse team. Additionally, he is an active volunteer with Martha Jefferson Hospital and a homeless outreach program, Street Soccer Charlottesville. He is a religious studies major and bioethics minor who has his sights set on medical school next year.
  • Giana Solomon is currently a 4th-year and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta. Studying English and foreign affairs, Giana will enroll in the Batten School of Public Policy and Leadership next year to pursue an accelerated Master's degree in Public Policy. In Delta Sigma Theta, Giana is the Vice-President of the chapter and oversees much of the internal operations of the sorority as well as service and volunteering. Giana is also a member of the Black Student Alliance, the March of Dimes, and volunteers with the Day in the Life program.
  • Sydney Kastner is currently a 3rd-year member of Zeta Tau Alpha and is pursuing a degree in sociology with a minor in leadership. She is currently the sorority’s secretary and will take on the role of the activities chair in the coming semester. At the University, Sydney is a captain of the Club Volleyball Team, is a co-chair for Camp Kesem, and volunteers extensively with Madison House.
